ST. LOUIS ONLINE WINDOWS / CORE

How Buying Windows Online Works in St. Louis

Four of the five steps happen online or on paper. The fifth — measuring — happens at your house, once, because a replacement window is built to the sixteenth of an inch for one opening. Here is each step, what you do, what we do, and what you are never asked to do.

Step 1 — See a range online

Open the instant estimate. Enter the number of windows, the style (double-hung, casement, slider, picture, bay, basement), the frame material, whether you expect insert or full-frame work, the wall (siding over frame, brick veneer, brick masonry), the house era, and whether the house is in a City historic district. It returns a low-to-high installed range for the job and a per-opening figure.

  • You do not enter an email or phone number. The range is on the screen, and the brief it produces downloads to your device.
  • The range is honest about what it does not know — rot, lintel condition, oversized openings widen it. It narrows at the measure.
  • The bands behind it are the same ones on the cost guide.

Step 2 — Shortlist on your own time

Read what applies to your house: the complete guide, styles and materials, performance ratings, insert vs. full-frame, and if you are in the City, the historic district rules. Decide what you want to be quoted on: material, glass package, method where you have a preference, grids, colors. Nobody contacts you during this step unless you ask.

Step 3 — Send photos and rough sizes

The quote form asks for: your address, a rough width and height for each opening, a photo of each elevation from the yard, a photo of your worst window inside and out, one typical window from inside, the wall type and the year built, and a line on what is wrong. The measuring guide walks it in ten minutes. We reply within one business day to set the measure visit; if the photos show something that changes the range — a rotted sill, a steel casement, a historic street façade — we say so before anyone drives out.

Step 4 — One measure visit

A member of our installation crew comes once, at a time you pick, and:

  • measures every opening three ways for width and three for height, and checks the diagonals for square;
  • probes every sill and lower jamb for rot;
  • confirms the wall type and looks at each lintel and sill from outside;
  • confirms the historic-district status and photographs the street façade for the CRO submission if one is needed;
  • notes anything that is not a window — plaster damage, a failed lintel — that you should know about.

The visit takes about an hour for a typical house. It is not a sales appointment: there is no presentation, no "today only" number and nothing to sign.

Step 5 — Written quote, then order

Within a few business days you receive a written quote that lists, for every opening: location, size, install method, product line and series, NFRC ratings, glass package, exterior trim treatment, and price. It lists the lead-safe work on a pre-1978 house, the permit or CRO review where one applies, disposal, cleanup, exclusions, lead time and the install window. It is good for thirty days. When you approve it, we order; when the units arrive — four to eight weeks for stock vinyl, eight to fourteen for clad-wood or historic replica — we install, one opening at a time, and walk every window with you before we leave.

What we never do

  • Price in your living room, or discount something if you sign now.
  • Expire a quote overnight.
  • Ask you to measure for the order, or to remove trim to "check the rough opening."
  • Ask for an email or phone number to show you a range.
  • Put a tax credit on a 2026 quote. There isn't one.
  • Wrap your brickmould in aluminum coil to hide rot.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't the measure be online? Because the order is built from it, and a sixteenth of an inch is the difference between a window that seals and one that doesn't. Photos and rough sizes get the estimate right; the tape gets the order right.

How long from first click to installed windows? Typically six to ten weeks for stock vinyl, ten to sixteen for clad-wood or historic replica, depending on the season and lead times after a storm.

Can I get a quote on just a few windows? Yes. Three windows cost more each than fourteen; the estimate and the quote both show it.

What if I want to change something after the quote? Before the order, anything. After the order, the units are made for your openings; changes are a new order.
